RTU Communications

The Profile™ server features an interactive Modbus map for each RTU. This allows any Modbus field to be requested and can also allow values to be written back to the RTU.

This feature is only available in 'Admin' mode and is very useful from a debug perspective.

To interact with the RTU and view real time information from it:

  • Select 'RTUS...' from the Server menu.
  • Double click on an RTU in the list.
  • Click the 'Fields' button in the black bar.

  • Enter a keyword or Modbus address into the search box.
  • Click the 'Go' button (clicking the 'X' button clears the search).

To filter fields by the data map:

  • Click the data map radio button eg 'Holding Registers' will show only holding register fields on the Modbus map.

To sort the Modbus map:

  • Click on the relevant column heading on which to sort.
  • Clicking on the column heading again reverses the direction of the sort.

To read a value from the RTU:

  • Click the 'Request Value' field. This will make a request for that field and the value will be shown in the list.

To write a value to the RTU:

  • Highlight a field in the Modbus list.
  • Click the 'Write Value' field.
  • Enter the new value.
  • Click the 'OK' button.

The new value is written to the RTU. The update will automatically be requested and will be shown in the field list once made. Note: Some fields such as totals tend not to be modifiable.
