Security

The security methods employed by Acquire™ are sophisticated and extensive and are beyond the scope of this document. However, it is necessary to understand the set up of certain security functions.

There are two ways of accessing Acquire. The first way of accessing the server is over the Internet. The other requires physical access to the server.

Web Browser Access

To access the web site using the web browser a user must be defined in Acquire™ along with their necessary access levels. This prevents unauthorised access to Acquire™ and allows Acquire™ to monitor unauthorised attempts to gain access.

Server Access

The server itself will need to be installed in a secure location. In normal operation, it will provide restricted access to the application.

Server

No password is required to view some of the system parameters on the server. Physical access to the server is required however!

View system logs
View alarms dock
View communications status of the flowcomputers
Monitor current users
View system licence
Elect to enter administration / configuration mode (password required)

Server Administrator

The server administrator can perform all of the default functions as well as the following:

Edit users and assign user access privileges
View alarms dock and accept alarms
View modbus fields and edit fields
View mail queue status and redirect blocked messages
Set log preferences to determine what information is logged
Server preferences to set refresh rates and archive volume
Monitor and disconnect current users
Elect to enter configuration mode (password required)

System Configuration

There is one password that allows the user to enter the configuration mode. The System configuror can perform all the functions that the server administrator can as well as following:

Set up a new system from scratch
Create new flowcomputers
Define station and streams
Customise the P&ID, sidebar and data screen menus
Create or modify streams and stations
Create or modify data screens, charts and pen colours
Create or modify reports
Create and modify alarm groupings
