Adding a Custom Sidebar to the P&ID

A custom side bar can be added to the P&ID that is accessed though a button on the P&ID.

To create the custom sidebar, firstly place a button on the P&ID:

On the device palette, select 'Buttons and Text'
On the device palette there are three button sizes to choose from depending on the amount of text you need to put on the button and the available space on the P&ID.
Drag and drop the required button into the available space on the P&ID.

When the button is dropped onto the P&ID the Button Properties window will open.

Field	Description
Button Title	Enter here the text that you would like to appear on the button.
Button Type	Select the type 'Panel Button'.

On completing these fields click the 'OK' button.
Click on the new button to display an empty sidebar at the top right of the P&ID.

The new custom sidebar will have the button title at the top. Field and other buttons can be added to the sidebar from the right click contextual menu.

The sidebar area on the right hand side of the screen is used to show real time data pertaining to any of the devices shown on the P&ID.

In order to view the sidebar information for a device simply click on that device on the P&ID. Having clicked on the device, it will be highlighted and the sidebar will be displayed to the right of the P&ID.

Using The Sidebar

The sidebar area on the right hand side of the screen is used to show real time data pertaining to the currently selected devices on the P&ID.

Each parameter has a title shown in bold red text and the field name shown in plain black text. To the side of the title may be a coloured box. This indicates that the value is being plotted on the snapshot chart and corresponds to the coloured line shown in the chart.

If the field is editable then there will be an edit button shown at the right hand side. The field can be made editable or not by adjusting the security levels in the Field Properties window.

In order to view the sidebar information for a device:

Click on the device on the P&ID.

The sidebar will be displayed to the right of the P&ID with real time information for that device.

In order to edit a field in the side bar:

Click in the 'edit' button next to the field to be edited.

The field value can now be edited.

To save the newly entered value:

Click the 'Save' button.

To revert back to the previous value and not save:

Click the 'Cancel' button

Changing the Device Name or Tag Name

The device name and tag name are both shown at the top of the sidebar when a device is selected on the P&ID. The tag name can also be displayed on the P&ID.

To change the device name or the tag:

Select the device on the P&ID.
Double click on the device name at the top of the sidebar.
This opens up the device properties window.
Enter the device name into the 'Display' field.
Enter the tag name into the 'Tag name' field.
Click the 'OK' button.

Adding Fields to the Sidebar

The parameters in the sidebar can customised. Up to a maximum of eight parameters in total can be displayed, although the number of available parameters reduces to six if there is a snapshot selected.

To add a field into the sidebar:

Select the device on the P&ID.
Right click anywhere on the sidebar choose either 'Insert Field' or 'Add Field' from the contextual menu (or choose 'Add Field' from the 'Edit' menu.
Select the field from the Select Field window. For more information see the Select Field section.
Click the 'OK' button.

Editing Fields to the Sidebar

To change a sidebar field:

Select the required device on the P&ID
Double click on the field in the sidebar that needs to be changed.
This will open the Select Field window where the changes can be made.
Click the 'OK' button.

Adding a Field to the Snapshot Chart

The snapshot chart can plot any six of the parameters that appear in the sidebar.

To add a field to the snapshot:
Double click on the field that you want to add.
Click on 'Show on Chart' in the Field Properties window.
Click the 'OK' button
Select 'Save' from the 'File' menu as the chart will not start to be plotted until the P&ID has been saved.

Adding Shortcut buttons to the Sidebar

A shortcut button can be added to the sidebar to quickly navigate to another station or a data screen.

To add a Button to the sidebar:

Move the mouse to the area in the sidebar that you would like the button to appear.
Right click and select 'Insert Button…' from the contextual menu.

The Button Properties window will open.

Set the following fields on the Button Properties window:

Field	Description
Button Title	Enter here the text that you would like to appear on the button
Button Type	Select the type ‘Navigation Button’ from the popup list. At this point the field in the window will change.
SubType	Select here the type of object that you would like to link to. Select 'Station' to navigate to a P&ID for another station. Select 'Subscreen' to navigate to a data screen for the current station.
Station	If you have selected 'Station' in the Subtype field, you can select here the name of the station to navigate to.
Subscreens	If you have selected 'Subscreen' from the Subtype field, you can select here the name of the screen to navigate to.

On completing these fields click the 'OK' button.

The button will now be shown on the sidebar.

Add a button to the Sidebar that will modify a field.

A button can be added to the Sidebar that will set a field to predefined value when clicked.

To add a Button to the sidebar:

Move the mouse to the area in the sidebar that you would like the button to appear.
Right click and select 'Insert Button…' from the contextual menu.

The Button Properties window will open.

Field	Description
Button Title	Enter here the text that you would like to appear on the button
Button Type	Select the type 'Field Modifier' from the popup list.
Modified Field	Click in the field or on the 'Select' button to display the 'Field Properties' window, where the field to be modified is selected.
Value	This is the value that will be assigned to the field when the button is clicked.
Are You Sure Text	When the button is clicked, a confirmation window is show, asking the user to confirm that they are sure they want the value assigned to the field. The text is this field is displayed in the confirmation window.

On completing these fields click the 'OK' button.

The button will now be shown on the sidebar.

Adding a Tag Name onto the P&ID

Tag names are associated with devices on the P&ID.

To add a new tag:

Select 'Show Text Box Types' from the 'Edit' menu in the P&ID to display all the tag fields.
Choose 'Buttons and Text' from the Device Pallet.

Drag the 'Tag' icon onto the required cell on the P&ID. If you drag the tag icon under or near a device, it will automatically associate with that device.

This will display the Tag Properties window:

Enter the tag name.
Select the device that the tag is related to.
Click OK.
Select 'Show Text Box Values' from the 'Edit' menu in the P&ID to display the tag values.
