METCO "Making Waves on the Web" with Ambrit

Acquire™ and Record™ Product Launch

NORTHCHURCH, England, September 2002. METCO Services Ltd. and Ambrit Ltd. invited a group of Aberdeen based engineers to the Aberdeen Marriott for a workshop presentation on the theme of: "Web Based Asset Management Solutions for Metrology Systems"

Ambrit Ltd., a Hertfordshire based leading edge developer of web database technology and METCO Services Ltd., a Division of Emerson Process Management, specialist providers of independent, metering-related services used this opportunity to launch two new products Acquire™ and Record™.

Chris Butler MBE, Ambrit and Gordon Fish, METCO introduced the two products. Then followed in-depth demonstrations of each product by Andrew Webb and Stephen Coulson, both from Ambrit Ltd.

Acquire™ - web based data acquisition and control

Ambrit's Acquire™ provides a window into process systems, interfacing with smart transducers and RTU's retrieving data and presenting it as P&ID's, charts and tabular data. Using local Intranet or extending the boundaries via the Internet this secure real-time application connects process to operations, management and support using conventional browser technology as the man machine interface.

Ambrit demonstrated the full potential of this state of the art solution with Andrew Webb's impressive workshop demonstration built a complete system in minutes by interrogating a suite of FloBoss™ S600 flow computers. Information was immediately made available on the Internet with a superb graphic rich interface using a web browser. Acquire™ makes custom software redundant with auto configuration using drag and drop editing, reducing cost of ownership to a minimum.

Acquire™ takes data acquisition and control to a new level of performance, reliability and secure accessibility.

Record™ - web based metrology asset management

METCO's inspired solution to web based metrology asset management, Record™, replaces the conventional process event logbook and the plant inventory/maintenance logbook with an electronic logbook, integrating them into a single web facing application.

Record™ revolutionises metrology asset management procedures. Using powerful search facilities coupled to an intuitive data-filtering interface Record™ allows rapid data entry and retrieval. Event data can be augmented with file attachments containing electronic documents, scanned images, pictures, video and sound.

Record™ is a stand-alone asset management system. However, when integrated with Acquire™ real time events from the data acquisition system are integrated with manually entered event data providing operations and management with a detailed chronological record of event and asset status.

Secure, access of Record™ data through Intranet or Internet communications allows distributed management information, expert intervention and audit from any world-wide location.

Commenting on the METCO/Ambrit relationship Gordon Fish, Managing Director of METCO said "this is a major opportunity for METCO allowing us access to innovative technologies that enhances the services METCO offer. Record™ is the first of a planned series of web based asset management products that METCO will release over the next few months. These products will improve safety and accuracy, reduce travel, saving costs in many areas."

Andy Jamieson, the host speaker at the workshop, told Platform Magazine, "Today, the engineers attending the workshop have seen a significant advance in the technology for managing metering and process measurement data. Ambrit and METCO have shown us how to use the Internet efficiently to give secure access to remote data and to distribute it world-wide. The possibilities are limited only by our imaginations."
